A huge crowd favorite at bass tournaments and over 100 personal appearances a year, Jimmy represents most of American's top outdoors related companies. Jimmy is well known as the hardest working pro in the country. In addition to working a lot of trade shows and store promotions, he speaks at a lot of churches around the country. Since winning The Oklahoma State Championship as a college senior in 1966, Jimmy Houston has gone on to win over a million dollars in bass tournaments. He has fished 15 BASSMaster Classics and won the B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year title in both 1976 and 1986. Jimmy stepped down from tournament fishing in 2020, primarily due to the change in rules where he would not be allowed to practice with his wife Chris.
A legendary angler, Jimmy was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2008, he was inducted into the IGFA Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame. Jimmy was named King of Sports for Fishing in 1989. In June of 2004, the Jim Thorpe Association recognized Jimmy as the Jim Thorpe Man of the Year. Jimmy was recognized as the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus of NSU. In 2016, he was inducted as the only fisherman into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Also in 2016, he celebrated his 50th year of fishing national Tournaments. In 2017, he was awarded the National Lewis and Clark Conservation Award along with Bill Dance and Roland Martin. In 2017, Jimmy was presented with the Bass Pro Shop Angler of the Century award.
Jimmy has written six books including "Caught Me a Big'un" which was a #1 selling fishing book. "Hooked for Life" and "The Reel Line" are spiritual and inspirational collections taken from fishing situations. "Catch of the Day," is a 365-day daily devotional built around fishing tips, tales, and events. An updated "Catch of the Day" was released in 2012. Jimmy’s newest book “Catch a Better Life was released in early 2022 as a new 365-day daily devotional with teaching related to fishing and the outdoors along with a daily fishing tip.
Jimmy has a growing presence on social media. His You Tube channels Jimmy Houston Outdoors Fishing, Jimmy and Chris Houston’s Twin Eagle Ranch, and Catch a Better Life (where he posts a daily video devotional EVERY day) are constantly growing and have a very interactive audience. His Facebook page – Jimmy Houston Outdoors – continues to grow with posts and videos from sponsors, daily video devotions, life on the ranch, fishing tips and of course his deer herd. Posts are also uploaded to Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
Jimmy is a deacon at Midway Hill Baptist Church near Sulphur. OK. Jimmy's wife of 60 years, Chris, was one of America's top female bass anglers and was named to the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2005, the first woman named to this Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. In 2008, she was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame. In 2021, Chris survived major brain bleed. She is on a long road to full recovery with full support of Jimmy and their children. Jimmy, along with their children and spouses have been a major support to Chris since and will continue to be. Jimmy and Chris have a son, Jamie (Amanda) and daughter, Sherri (Jack). Both are active in the company's businesses. They have five grandchildren and fifteern great grandchildren.
